The killing follows the shooting death last month of another Christian in the country after he stopped Muslims from stealing from his guava crop.
Ethiopia: Three Christians Killed by Government Forces
hree people were killed on Saturday in Ethiopia after attackers opened fire on a church in the city of Shashimani, located in the populous Oromia state. According to local church sources, the assailants were government special forces who perpetrated the attack amid the growing tensions within the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church.
Nigeria: Islamist Kill 12 Christians in Benue State
After local ignored warnings that thousands of Islamist herdsmen were arriving in Benue state, suspected herdsmen on Saturday (Jan. 28) attacked two villages and killed 12 Christians, sources said.
The assailants attacked Ichembe and Mbaigbe villages in Kwande County and wounded dozens of others, besides destroying houses, crops and farms, said Michael Aondohemba, general coordinator of the Turan People’s Assembly (TUPA).
Sudan: Suspected Islamist Kill Four Christians
A church pastor and three other Christians were killed in Sudan on Monday (Jan. 23) when suspected Islamic extremists shot them to death, an area source said. Four of the victims’ traveling companions were wounded when the assailants opened fire on the team at the facility where they were spending the night in Kadugli, capital of Sudan’s South Kordofan state. Sudanese-American Pastor Ibrahim Kandr, Ismail Osman, Bashir Almaak and Ayoub Ibrahim were spending the night in Kadugli en route to their home area of Um Durein when the assailants shot them between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m., an area church leader said.
Nigeria: Pastor Slain and Two Other Christians Killed in Delta
A church pastor in northeast Nigeria was slain on Thursday (Jan. 26), and anti-Christian violence continued to grow in the southern part of the country with the killing of two Christians in Delta state, sources said. In northeast Nigeria, Pastor Jerry Hinjari of Christ Nation International was abducted from his home in Yola, Adamawa state around midnight on Wednesday (Jan. 25), and his body was found on a roadside in the city the next day. The assailants were unknown, though Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) members active in the region were suspected.
