Uganda: Islamist Kill Christian after Debate
A 37-year-old father of four was killed on Jan. 2 after participating in a Christian-Muslim debate in eastern Uganda at which 13 Muslims put their faith in Christ, sources said.
Ahamada Mafabi was returning from the debate near Mbale when men on two motorcycles shouting the jihadist slogan, “Allah Akbar [God is greater],” knocked him off his motorcycle and sliced his neck with a knife, one of the Christians sent to escort him said.
Uganda: Pastor and Christian Couple Poisoned
A pastor in western Uganda remains in a hospital Intensive Care Unit after Muslim extremists poisoned him and a Christian couple on Nov. 24, sources said. Pastor Francis Kutekereza, 51, was meeting for prayer with the couple, recent converts from Islam in Kigorobya Sub-County, Hoima District, at 6 p.m. when seven Muslims entered the house and tried to force them to eat bananas laced with a fungicide that causes ptomaine poisoning.
Uganda: Pastor Sprayed with Acid in Ambush in Kampala
A pastor has lost nearly all his vision after Muslim extremists lured him into an ambush in Uganda’s capital city and sprayed him with acid, sources said. Pastor Frank Mutabaazi of Mbarara can see only dimly out of one eye and has trouble eating and talking due to the burns from the acid attack on Dec. 22 in Kampala. His shoulder was also seriously burned, and he cannot sleep without painkillers.
Indonesia: Islamist Halt Christmas Celebrations
Muslim villagers in West Java, Indonesia on Christmas Day stopped a congregation from celebrating Christmas in a home, according to various sources.
The interference came within hours of Indonesian President Joko Widodo’s historic visits to two churches in nearby Bogor, where he urged congregations to continue harmonious relations with people of other faiths.
Nigeria: Islamist Attack Christian Communities
Homes and crops were destroyed by members of the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) on Dec. 19 in Borno state, Nigeria, nine days after terrorists killed a pregnant Christian woman in the same area, sources said. The ISWAP terrorists attacked predominantly Christian Jibwiwi (Debiro) village in Hawul County and Ngulde village in Askira/Uba County at about 6 p.m., burning several houses and destroying livestock and storehouses of harvested crops, said area resident Shawulu Yohanna.
Nigeria: Islamist Slaughter 46 Christians
Suspected Islamist herdsmen and other terrorists killed 46 people Sunday night to Wednesday (Dec. 18-21) in attacks in predominantly Christian areas of southern Kaduna state, sources said.
Attacks by Fulani herdsmen and other terrorists on Malagum and Abun (Broni Prono) villages in Kaura County Sunday through Tuesday (Dec. 18-20) left 38 people dead in the predominantly Christian communities, said Luka Biniyat, spokesmasn for the Southern Kaduna People’s Union (SOKAPU).
U.S.: USCIRF ‘Outraged’ by State Department
After the U.S. Department of State announced its recent designations for Countries of Particular Concern (CPC) last Friday, the United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) responded with ‘outrage’ by the State Department’s omission of Nigeria and India from the list of designations. These two countries are notoriously known for their grave violations of religious freedom, and many civil society organizations and foreign governments share USCIRF’s sentiment.
Nigeria: Christians Kidnapped in Separate Attacks
Islamist in southwestern Nigeria last week kidnapped Christian workers taking a bus to a wedding, while another group of Christians was kidnapped en route to a funeral in the same state.
A relative of one of 48 Christians who were kidnapped off a Coaster Bus going from Ondo state to attend the funeral in Edo state on Nov. 24 said her cousin escaped because she was beaten and left for dead.
