Uganda: Evangelists Sustain Knife Wounds after Debates
Two evangelists on Sept. 24 sustained deep knife wounds after leading several Muslims to Christ at debates on Islam and Christianity in eastern Uganda, sources said. Andrew Dikusooka, 35, and 26-year-old Ronald Musasizi had debated Islamic scholars in several areas around Iganga District, and some attacked them after a Sept. 20-24 series of such debates in the district’s predominantly Muslim Nampirika village, said a leader of their ministry, unnamed for security reasons.
Nigeria: Islamist Attack Chibok Village - Three Dead
Islamic militants killed three Christians in an attack on a village of Chibok County in northeast Nigeria on October 4. They wounded dozens of others and burned homes, sources said. This is the latest of many acts of terrorism over several years targeting Christians in the Chibok area.
Indonesia: Authorities Block Road Leading to Christian Event
A bishop in the Moluccas, Indonesia, has accused authorities there of hindering peaceful relations between religious communities in the region. Bishop Seno Ngutra of the diocese of Amboina met with journalists at his home in the regency of Western Seram. In the interview, he criticized the head of the regency, General Andi Ansaddudin for his recent actions. Specifically, General Ansaddudin denied the Christian community access to a main road leading to the nearby city of Kupang. In October, the Presparini festival, a major Catholic event, will be held in that city.
India: Legislature Passes Anti-Conversion Bill in Karnataka State
The Legislative Council of the State of Karnataka, India, recently passed an anti-conversion bill. The Legislative Assembly passed the bill last December, and it was recently moved to the upper house where it was approved.
Sudan: Apostasy Charges Against Four Christians Dismissed
A court in Sudan on Sept. 8 dismissed apostasy charges against four Christians who were threatened with the death penalty unless they recanted. Judge Ibrahim Hamza dismissed the apostasy charges against the Christians in Central Darfur state, stating that apostasy is no longer a crime in Sudan, their attorney said.
Nigeria: Christian Security Guard Killed and Pastor Abducted
Islamist suspected in killing of a Christian security guard as they abducted a pastor in central Nigeria and wounded the church leader’s wife, sources said. James Ngyang, a member of the church led by Pastor Bung Fon Dong of the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), was killed in the attack at the residence of Pastor Dong on church premises in Ganawuri, Riyom County, Plateau state, said area resident Danjen Bagu Gang.
Nigeria: Christian Woman Killed By Islamists
On Saturday, August 27, suspected Fulani herdsmen shot and killed a Christian woman while she cleaned her church building. The woman, named Lyop Dalyop, was cleaning the Church of Christ in Nations in Bangai village when armed men allegedly ambushed her and killed her. An attorney who directs the Emancipation Center For Crisis Victims in Nigeria said that the incident occurred around 8:00pm.
Nigeria: Islamists Kill More than 20 Christians in Taraba State
More than 20 Christians were killed in Gassol and Bali counties by Fulani herdsmen and others during the first two weeks of the month. Constant killings and maiming of innocent Christians have become very common in Taraba state. The killings and kidnappings in the two counties displaced more than 10,000 people from the predominantly Christian villages.
